Here’s an idea for busy parents to give yourself and your kids a fun brain break from phones and other digital devices so many of us have become addicted to.
This is a bookmark/card I made today with a Cocoa Daisy pocket scrapbooking card and June 2018 Cocoa Daisy washi tape and diecuts.
It was very simple and easy to make.
In a world of digital everything, it’s so fun and relaxing to give and receive a homemade card – for my nephews and for me. And we get some awesome non-screen time together.
Supplies
I subscribe to Cocoa Daisy monthly planner and scrapbooking kits. They help me relax and unwind and give my brain a much-needed break from digital devices.
I have plenty of goodies for myself so earlier this month for my nephew’s sixth birthday, I gave him a pack of papers, accessories and stickers from the monthly Cocoa Daisy kits I already subscribe to.
This was a win for my nephew, my sister and me in many ways…
Budget-Friendly
It was budget-friendly, because I didn’t need to spend any extra money on his present.
I instead invested time into making a card for him with my monthly kit supplies and by curating a kit of goodies with things he’d like.
Special Time Together to Really Connect
This gave us an opportunity to get together and connect another time after the busyness of his birthday party where he was excited to play with his friends.
Positive, Empowering Messages
I absolutely adore Cocoa Daisy’s kits. The soothing colors and designs are filled with positive, empowering and uplifting messages.
Stickers Are Popular with All Ages
Cocoa Daisy just added a sticker subscription option recently, which I got for the first time in June and I’ve been having so much fun playing with all the stickers for myself and with my nephews.
I’ve been sharing my monthly extras with my six-year-old nephew to give him some brain breaks from his phone since he appears to be pretty addicted to it.
The Healing Power of Stickers & Paper Crafts
I take what I call my “Mary Poppins mental health bag” of stickers and paper goodies over to my sister’s house.
I have found that playing with the paper craft goodies help him calm down and even helped him feel a lot better when he was sick with a fever. After playing with stickers and making bookmarks, his fever lifted and he ate for the first time in days.
Small Victories
He said he felt “tired” after about 30 minutes and wanted to go back to playing with his phone and sitting in front of the TV.
I still consider that a victory, because that’s 30 fewer minutes he spent in front of a screen and my sister got a little break too. Win win win!
